» WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed: The Results!

WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed: The Results!Late last year, you may recall that we announced our holiday giving program, Love. Write. Feed. For every vendor review written about one of our Pros on WeddingWire, we donated $1 towards a warm meal to feed those in need during holiday season!

The donations went to one of our five food bank partners within the region where the vendor is located. With over 42,000 reviews received during the campaign, we reached our goal! We were able to donate 41,600 meals across our food bank partners! Here’s the breakdown of how the meals were donated:

Of course, we could not have reached our goals without the help of all our Wedding Pros, who helped us by providing their clients with an experience worth reviewing, as well as the wonderful WeddingWire users who wrote the reviews. Thank you all so much for helping us make a difference in the lives of people across the nation!

Many of our Pros even took the initiative to match their own reviews with donations to charities of their choice! Thank you to those generous businesses who contributed through their own efforts.

Thanks again to all our Pros, couples and food bank partners for making the WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed. program a success!

» Get Ready for the New Year! The Hottest 2014 Wedding Trends

Kim Forrest is one of WeddingWire’s editors. She manages content creation on both WeddingWire and EventWire. Kim has been writing about weddings for nearly a decade, and has been quoted as a weddings expert in the New York Times, Washington Post, Slate, and more.

As 2013 comes to a close, the WeddingWire Editorial team is celebrating the launch of our WinterBook (yay!) and looking ahead to the upcoming wedding season. There are several wedding trends that started to emerge this year that we think are going to be big in 2014. So to help you prepare for those 2014 couples, check out our list of 2014 wedding trends!

The Hottest Wedding Trends for the New YearPhoto by Lane Baldwin Photography

Metallic Color Schemes
From wedding dresses to stationery, linens to cakes, expect to see a lot of gold and silver next year! We saw metallic wedding dresses at New York Bridal Market, and think this trend will carry over into décor, as well.

Art Deco
Inspired by The Great Gatsby (both the book and the 2013 movie), we’re expecting to see lots of 1920s-era décor and themes in 2014.

Unique Entertainment
Photobooths have been popular at weddings for a while now, but expect to other types of “alternative entertainment” next year. We’re thinking Slow-Motion Video Booths, I Spy or Mad Libs, lots of lawn games, and much more! Check out some of our favorite guest entertainment ideas here!

Halter Neckline Wedding Dresses
See ya later, strapless! Halter necklines were all over the runways this season. It’s a great look for brides who want to show off some gorgeous shoulders.

Radiant Orchid
Pantone just announced the Color of the Year for 2014, and it’s Radiant Orchid – a pretty pinky-purple that is a beautiful hue for wedding décor. Purple was the hot hue a few years back, so is it making a comeback? We’ll soon find out!

Custom Hashtags
Gone are the days of placing disposable cameras on guest tables – now it’s all about the Instagram hashtag as a means of collecting guest photos! Couples are creating signs to inform guests of their Instagram hashtags (#nickandsara for example) so that all of the photos of their wedding will be easily accessed.

We’re predicting that this beautiful bloom will be the hot flower for 2014. They come in a wide variety of colors and create such a lush, unique look!

“Naked” Wedding Cakes
We’re not trying to be crass here, but wedding cakes without any icing are becoming a quite the trend for rustic, casual weddings.

Hanging Décor
From lanterns to flowers to ribbons, crepe paper, even parasols – couples are clamoring for décor hanging from the ceiling! It’s a striking and dramatic look that turns the traditional centerpiece upside-down!

Bridesmaid Dress Color = Mint
Pale green bridesmaid dresses were all over the runways at bridal market, so expect to see this minty fresh color at spring and summer weddings in 2014!

» Announcing WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed.

Announcing WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed.WeddingWire is excited to announce our newest charitable endeavor, Love. Write. Feed. For every vendor review written about your business, WeddingWire will donate $1 towards a warm meal to feed those in need this holiday season. We invite all newlyweds to review their wedding vendors on WeddingWire – each review we receive through the end of the year will provide an average of 4 meals for a neighbor in need.

The donation will go to one of our food bank partners within the region where the vendor is located. Our donation goal is $10,000 – that amount would mean we’d be able to donate 41,600 meals across our food bank partners! That’s a big number that could really help a lot of people in need during the holidays.

How can WeddingWire Pros help?

Though it’s the newlyweds who’ll need to write reviews, our WeddingWire Pros can also help us reach our goal by requesting reviews from their newlyweds! Not only will these reviews help us raise money, but you’ll also be helping your business gain recognition through our awards programs:

  • Each new review means you’re working towards a higher level in our WeddingWire Rated program, so can earn updated badges that show off your stellar reputation.
  • The higher quality reviews you receive, the closer you are to winning a Couples’ Choice Award, recognizing your business as within the top five percent of wedding professionals on WeddingWire who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism!

The WeddingWire Review Collector makes it easy for you to collect reviews from past clients by sending a personalized email, creating a unique URL or using our customizable ‘Review Us’ button! There’s no easier way to collect and showcase your reviews all in one place.

By requesting reviews from your past clients, you’ll be helping us to get one step closer to reaching our donation goal. Stand out from your competitors and spread holiday cheer by collecting reviews before the end of the year!

» Government Shutdown Threatens Weddings Nationwide

Government Shutdown Threatens Weddings NationwideAs you have likely heard, the government shutdown is affecting hundreds of thousands of government employees and their families across the nation, but the effects are causing notable and unforeseen consequences. Many engaged couples are finding that their wedding venues are unexpectedly closed for an unknown period of time, due to the shutdown.

National sites including federally-run parks, museums and monuments have been gaining popularity as wedding locations. Those who have spent months planning their special day at such a venue are now scrambling at the last minute to reschedule ceremonies, receptions, photography and more – with few alternatives. These couples are in danger of losing time and money spent obtaining permits and reserving sites as a result of the impasse in Congress.

In the DC area alone, many couples who were planning to getting married in October at various locations throughout the nation’s capital, now must make other plans. The government shutdown is putting even more strain on engaged couples in DC by shutting down the district’s Family Court Marriage Bureau which will not be performing marriages. With WeddingWire headquartered in the DC Metro area, the team is focused on assisting our local couples who are facing this hardship, during what should be a very exciting time.

WeddingWire Pros – we encourage you to take this opportunity to help engaged couples in need around you. Here’s what some local DC pros had to say about the shutdown:

“One of the many unpleasant side effects of the recent government shutdown is the impact it is having on DC brides. For couples who have been planning their special day for months to suddenly find out that their venue is unavailable because it is a government facility can be devastating. Fortunately, WeddingWire is a great resource for brides to turn to in order to find a new venue with a minimum of time lost. As a private venue in the greater Northern VA area, with proximity to DC, Rosemont would be honored to host these special events and to assist couples in any way to make the transition as smooth as possible.”

– Suzanne Pearson, Historic Rosemont Manor

“For brides/grooms affected by the Federal government shutdown, one of the best resources to help you find a new venue fast is WeddingWire.com. You can not only search venues easily by various search criteria (such as geographic area, type of venue, capacity of the venue) but you can also see photos and videos and contact the venue directly through the venue’s listing on WeddingWire. The extensive reviews from real brides/grooms help you to get a good picture of each venue to narrow your search. Any venue listed on WeddingWire would be happy to help brides/grooms affected by the government shutdown to find a new location for your wedding either at their venue or by referral to other venues in their area. And we can help brides/grooms organize their wedding quickly if they have had to move their wedding last minute.”

– Ellen Goldberg, Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn

If you’re planning a wedding affected by the shutdown and searching for last-minute help, please check out the resources WeddingWire has to offer and feel free to start a conversation in our forums. With a database of more than 200,000 wedding professionals, you can find the most comprehensive listings for your wedding needs.
