» The Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends from New York Bridal Fashion Week

The WeddingWire Team just returned from New York Bridal Fashion Week, and what a whirlwind it was! The team attended 86 shows and appointments over six days, and all agree that this was one of the strongest showings we’ve seen in a while! We saw lots of new designers, fresh ideas, and some interesting new wedding dress trends. Check out the styles we’re sure brides will be clamoring for in 2015!

Crop Tops

If this season’s Bridal Fashion Week had a theme, it would be “showing skin.” And designers found lots of ways to do just that. We saw two-piece wedding gowns featuring crop tops on many runways. While these styles aren’t for everyone, they’re certainly modern and fresh.

Deep V-Necks

How low can you go? Well, when it comes to necklines, pretty low, apparently. Designers were bringing necklines nearly down to the navel in many cases. However, if the rest of gown is kept fairly demure with a classic silhouette and perhaps, sleeves, the overall effect isn’t too scandalous.

Yes, it’s that time of year again! It’s New York Bridal Fashion Week (or Bridal Market, as it’s known to insiders) and the WeddingWire team will be there to get a sneak peek of the newest wedding dresses, bridesmaid styles, and accessories. In fact, we will be viewing over 80 collections at fashion shows and private appointments over the next week (that’s a lot of gowns)! These are the wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses that brides will be buying and wearing in 2015, so as a Wedding Pro it’s a good idea to know what’s hot and what’s not!

Want to get the inside scoop on the latest and greatest in wedding fashion? Our editorial team will be posting updates throughout the week on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, WedStyle, and (new this season!) Snapchat, where you can follow ‘weddingwire.’ And to view the full collections, visit our Bridal Market page, which we’ll be updating with the newest photos and trend reports as they come in.

If you’ll be attending Bridal Market, be sure to stop by the WeddingWire booth at Pier 94, complete with snacks, drinks, and a charging station so you can power up your mobile device.

And don’t forget to watch this space for a Bridal Market Trend Report, which we’ll get to you after we’ve seen the new dresses and collections.

This season’s New York Bridal Fashion Week was a busy time for the WeddingWire Editorial team. We covered a lot of ground, hitting over 60 shows, appointments and presentations in less than a week, and sharing the latest gowns via our brand-new WedStyle app, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and more. All of the brand-new dresses are also available for your browsing on our Bridal Fashion Week page.

Now, on to some of the top trends we spotted this season that your brides will be asking for:

Layered Over Nude: We saw designers using nude-colored fabric on many gowns to create the illusion of a barely-there look. Lace overlays provide a pretty, feminine look, while beading gives the style more of a jaw-dropping glam factor.

Another year has flown by! 2013 showed us a year of beautiful, elegant weddings, but it’s time to get ready for what’s coming in 2014. Now is the time of year I like to compile bridal trend predictions for the year ahead.

In early December, I reached out to members of BridalTweet’s online wedding community and asked, “What are your predictions for 2014 weddings?”  Here are the highlights from the answers that I received from the experts!

1. Hand-painted Wedding Cakes. Predicted by Crystalpearl Jewelry.

2.  Detailed Backs.  “Backs are going to be the main feature in 2014.  Thanks to vintage influences in 2013, 2014 is going to be packed with this subtle yet sexy feature.  We are talking keyholes, jeweled embellishments, architectural pleating and lace fill-ins.” – Rachel Morgan

3.  Rustic is out. Elegant is in. “Brides are looking for contemporary design with traditional touches. Budgets will still be tight but there will be increased spending on uniqueness and interactive activities for guests.” – Marina Luri Events

» Get Ready for the New Year! The Hottest 2014 Wedding Trends

Kim Forrest is one of WeddingWire’s editors. She manages content creation on both WeddingWire and EventWire. Kim has been writing about weddings for nearly a decade, and has been quoted as a weddings expert in the New York Times, Washington Post, Slate, and more.

As 2013 comes to a close, the WeddingWire Editorial team is celebrating the launch of our WinterBook (yay!) and looking ahead to the upcoming wedding season. There are several wedding trends that started to emerge this year that we think are going to be big in 2014. So to help you prepare for those 2014 couples, check out our list of 2014 wedding trends!

The Hottest Wedding Trends for the New YearPhoto by Lane Baldwin Photography

Metallic Color Schemes
From wedding dresses to stationery, linens to cakes, expect to see a lot of gold and silver next year! We saw metallic wedding dresses at New York Bridal Market, and think this trend will carry over into décor, as well.

Art Deco
Inspired by The Great Gatsby (both the book and the 2013 movie), we’re expecting to see lots of 1920s-era décor and themes in 2014.

Unique Entertainment
Photobooths have been popular at weddings for a while now, but expect to other types of “alternative entertainment” next year. We’re thinking Slow-Motion Video Booths, I Spy or Mad Libs, lots of lawn games, and much more! Check out some of our favorite guest entertainment ideas here!

Halter Neckline Wedding Dresses
See ya later, strapless! Halter necklines were all over the runways this season. It’s a great look for brides who want to show off some gorgeous shoulders.

Radiant Orchid
Pantone just announced the Color of the Year for 2014, and it’s Radiant Orchid – a pretty pinky-purple that is a beautiful hue for wedding décor. Purple was the hot hue a few years back, so is it making a comeback? We’ll soon find out!

Custom Hashtags
Gone are the days of placing disposable cameras on guest tables – now it’s all about the Instagram hashtag as a means of collecting guest photos! Couples are creating signs to inform guests of their Instagram hashtags (#nickandsara for example) so that all of the photos of their wedding will be easily accessed.

We’re predicting that this beautiful bloom will be the hot flower for 2014. They come in a wide variety of colors and create such a lush, unique look!

“Naked” Wedding Cakes
We’re not trying to be crass here, but wedding cakes without any icing are becoming a quite the trend for rustic, casual weddings.

Hanging Décor
From lanterns to flowers to ribbons, crepe paper, even parasols – couples are clamoring for décor hanging from the ceiling! It’s a striking and dramatic look that turns the traditional centerpiece upside-down!

Bridesmaid Dress Color = Mint
Pale green bridesmaid dresses were all over the runways at bridal market, so expect to see this minty fresh color at spring and summer weddings in 2014!
