Today is WeddingWire’s 7th birthday! On May 1, 2007, WeddingWire.com was officially launched, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. We’re so thankful for those who’ve made this journey with us, and we look forward to more years of growth and success as the leading wedding vertical marketplace in the industry.
As we celebrate this milestone and many more achievements to come, we always want to share our lessons and growth with you – our partners. Check out our infographic with tips on the seven habits of fast-growing startups below:
We’re excited to announce that WeddingWire has joined forces with two other DC tech companies, Speek and SocialRadar, to bring you SocialWeddingSpeek, a virtual weddings platform nationwide beginning today, April 1, 2014!
With SocialWeddingSpeek, engaged couples will now be able to carry-out their nuptials on-the-go, no longer having to travel beyond their computers and smartphones to host a wedding in front of family and friends. Instead, friends and family may simply join the SocialWeddingSpeek conference and watch the couple say and type “I do.”
Speek, a conference calling platform with a visual interface, and SocialRadar, a mobile application providing real-time information on the people around you, are perfect partners to pioneer this new, less stressful and less expensive ceremony experience.
Here’s what WeddingWire CEO, Tim Chi, had to say about this exciting new venture:
“At WeddingWire, we always prioritize our mission to help simplify the wedding process for couples using technology. From increasing our mobile presence to launching SocialWeddingSpeek, we always look to our consumers needs and meet them where they are. Data shows an increase in long-distance couples in recent years, so we wanted to take that opportunity to better serve that segment of our market. Of course we could not have done it without all the weddings and events professionals who have demonstrated their shared commitment to serving all couples – whether they are together or miles apart.”

This past weekend, members of the WeddingWire team ran in the DC Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon Race 2014! The race, featuring both a half marathon and a full marathon event, began on Constitution Avenue and the course ran through historic sights like the White House, Washington Monument and more.
The race also featured a sneaker and clothing donation component in partnership with clothes-pin, a non-profit organization who focuses on the collection and distribution of sneakers and clothing for people in need. Runners and spectators were able to contribute these items during race weekend, and the donations will be distributed to local DC shelters.
We’d like to congratulate WeddingWire team members Americo, Brendan, Christina and Lizzie for finishing the half marathon! We’re so proud to have such driven and diligent people in the WeddingWire family.
Check out the photos below of WeddingWire’s runners with their friends and family after the race. Congratulations again to all the runners!
At WeddingWire we have a lot of traditions, but one of our favorites is our annual company Thanksgiving potluck! With our WeddingWire family quickly surpassing 300 employees, this year’s potluck was our largest yet! While our Exec team provided the turkey, ham and vegetarian main dishes, the entire WeddingWire staff brought in a special dish to share. It was truly a Thanksgiving feast!
This year, we have a lot to be thankful for. In addition to the new employees we’ve welcomed to the family, WeddingWire has had a great sixth year as a company. We also look forward to opportunities to give back during the holiday season, and throughout the year, through a variety of charity initiatives organized by our caring and hard-working charity committee, The Giving Tree.

Happy Thanksgiving from the WeddingWire team!
Last week, WeddingWire CEO Timothy Chi participated in the twice annual Pitch Dingman Competition at University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business. Not only was Tim a lead judge for the competition, but he was also the keynote speaker!
The Pitch Dingman Competition is a twice annual competition in which student entrepreneurs have the opportunity to pitch their start-up idea to notable alumni and regional industry leaders. The competition is named for the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship on UMD’s College Park campus.
The five finalists who are given the opportunity to pitch the judges are chosen from an initial group of ten who participate in a semi-final round. The top five are then coached by Dingman Center staff and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence to prepare them for the final competition.
Tim and the other judges selected the first and second place winners, while the live audience for the competition used text-to-vote to select the winner of the Audience Choice Award. Winners received varying levels of cash prizes to put towards their startup ideas.
The first place prize of $2,000 went to SellMyOldTech.com, a startup that provides the fastest and easiest way to sell old or broken smartphones.

WeddingWire is an innovative, fast-growing, and high-achieving technology company, but we’re also a company that loves to give back to our community. Our charity committee, The Giving Tree, has already collectively done so much this year, including:
- Bone Marrow Drive: 77 people signed up to donate bone marrow to patients suffering with diseases that affect their bone marrow.
- Fill a Child’s Backpack: 42 people signed up to bring in school supplies to fill children’s backpacks. We filled over 33 backpacks and provided 2 boxes of extra supplies!
- Red Cross Blood Drive: 15 people signed up and gave blood. Each person’s donation was enough to save 3 people’s lives – that’s 45 lives saved!
- Writing Letters to Our Troops: Our team wrote 27 letters and sent them to our troops overseas.
- Navy Yard Bake Sale: To help the families affected by the tragic Navy Yard shootings, we held a bake sale that raised $446.
…And we’re not done yet! WeddingWire is excited to announce several more charity initiatives this holiday season:
Canned Food Drive
Our annual fall canned food drive is back for 2013! For four weeks, we’re collecting canned food donations from employees, with a donation counter posted in our café. We’re making participation a priority and aiding our company in achieving these charity goals. We’ve set a corporate goal of 1,500 cans of food – that’s an average of 7.5 cans of food per employee!
We’re excited to announce that our Chief Marketing Officer, Sonny Ganguly, has been named a “Rising Star” in the 2013 CMO Awards!
The CMO Awards were created by The CMO Club, an organization created to bring CMOs together and enable them to share insights and experiences so they can become better at what they do. The CMO Awards is the first program driven and decided by a group of marketing peers to celebrate the marketing industry’s brightest leaders.
There are six categories in which nominees can be recognized, including CMO Leadership, CMO Marketing Innovation, CMO Officers, CMO Rising Star, CMO Programmatic Marketing and CMO Club President’s Circle. Three to four winners are selected from each category by an Awards Panel made up of various CMO Club members.
WeddingWire is thrilled that Sonny has achieved this award in recognition of all his hard work as CMO and co-founder. Under Sonny’s leadership, WeddingWire will continue to focus on helping wedding professionals leverage technology to market their business and reach even more engaged couples!
Sonny participates in our monthly educational webinars, so make sure you register to hear the latest on a variety of marketing and technology topics! You can also follow him on Twitter, @sonnyg, for more marketing insight.

Last Thursday, September 5th the WeddingWire team had the pleasure of attending InTheCapital’s DC Fest, an outdoor festival that brings together top DC brands and products while celebrating the best food, drink, and music the District has to offer.
Each year, DC Fest holds a Coolest Companies Competition in which they honor the top 10 coolest companies in DC with some street cred and cool prizes from event sponsors. This year the focus was on cool tech startups in the area, and we’re thrilled to announce that WeddingWire made the list!

Every summer, a favorite WeddingWire tradition is for the entire team to come together for a day of team-building, learning and fun at WeddingWire Collaborate.
Each year, the team heads to Annapolis, Maryland, for on off-site day conference. The first part of the day the full team comes together to reflect on the year, accomplishments made thus far, and exciting updates on what is to come. The afternoon is spent doing team-building fun, bringing together members of different departments to work together, problem solve, communicate and get creative.
After the day, the team celebrates with a dinner and cocktails at a local restaurant, that has become part of the tradition, as well!
