» 5 Tips for Running Your Business During the Holidays

How to run your wedding business during the holidaysFor many small business owners in the wedding industry, taking time off around the holidays can be extremely difficult to do. There’s a constant anxiety that you’re missing something important or forgetting about a client, so it can be hard to “check out” and enjoy the season. Yet if the holiday season is important to you, you should make every effort to reserve time for yourself.

No matter what holiday(s) you celebrate, these tips will help you keep running your business during the holidays!

Communicate time off clearly

Because the holiday season has become such a big part of our culture, it’s expected that your business will not be available at all times during the month of December. As long as you notify your prospects and clients of your holiday hours early, they’ll know ahead of time when you absolutely won’t be available. You’ll find that as long as people know what to expect with plenty of time to make adjustments, closing for a few days shouldn’t be a problem!

Take care of loose ends before checking out

As a business owner, it’s your responsibility to respond to any remaining emails, phone calls, or inquiries before the holidays. Especially if any of your correspondence is urgent, make sure you’ve covered off on those things before you take your time off. Or, if you have essential employees covering for you, make sure they have what they need to keep things moving in your absence.

Schedule/automate where possible

Emails, social media posts, and auto-response emails can be scheduled ahead of time, so take advantage! If you send email campaigns, consider writing, building, and scheduling a happy holidays email before you leave the office for the holidays. Write your social media posts and use a platform like Hootsuite to select when you’d like them to publish over the coming days. And don’t forget to add your vacation time to your auto-response emails – that way your clients will be reminded of your schedule.

» 4 Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season

In honor of #GivingTuesday, check out our 4 ways to give back this holiday seasonFor busy wedding professionals, it can be hard to find the time to do any extracurricular activities. With the holidays quickly approaching, you’re likely to add shopping, baking, and hosting to your to-do list! There’s no shame in enjoying the holiday season, but it’s important to remember those who are less fortunate and in need of our help.

Since today is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to celebrating generosity and giving back, we thought we’d share a few of the ways you can give back this holiday season:

Volunteer

If you can spare some time out of your packed schedule, volunteering is one of the easiest ways to give back to the community! There are a ton of opportunities to help in your local area – every city has food banks, homeless shelters, animal shelters, youth clubs, or other organizations that could use some extra help around the holidays. There are also plenty of national charitable organizations you can look into for events coming to your area where you can donate your time.

Donate food

There’s typically no shortage of leftover food after a wedding! Instead of letting it go to waste, consider the possibility of donating it to a food bank or shelter in your area. Donating food requires little extra time on your part while benefiting many who are in desperate need. Programs like the New England NACE Feeding Our Neighbors program facilitate this process with local food rescue operations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island – learn more about the laws surrounding food donation here.

» Holiday Marketing Strategies to Boost Your Bookings

Happy Fourth of July!If there’s one thing people love, it’s a good holiday! The United States has a number of holidays throughout the year that mean time off and fun, themed celebrations. While they’re an excellent time for consumers to kick back and relax, holidays are also an excellent time for wedding professionals to make the most of all the excitement that surrounds them.

The Fourth of July holiday has got us thinking about capitalizing on holiday buzz – take advantage of all the goodwill of an upcoming holiday by using one of these holiday marketing strategies!

Create holiday-themed images to use on your social networks

One of the easiest ways to promote your wedding business during a holiday is to create holiday-themed images. Ask your graphic designer to help if you have one (or know one), or use a free service like Canva to add your own text and logo to the image of your choice. Even a message as simple as “Happy Independence Day” with your logo and a nice image will provide a personal touch and keep your business top of mind without much effort! Post these images on your social networks, or add them as your profile or cover photos on Facebook and Twitter. Just remember to be timely – once the holiday has passed, don’t forget to change your photos back to the regular versions.

Introduce holiday deals and promotions

Another great way to capitalize on the buzz around holidays is by offering deals or running promotions. Most retail brands also run sales during holiday weekends, so couples are likely already on the hunt for a good deal. If you are approaching a holiday and still don’t have an event, run a promotion that offers a special package or additional services for a wedding on that holiday. Or, if your business serves consumers beyond events (florists, makeup artists, photographers), consider offering a discount to get more people in the door on a day where they might otherwise be busy.

The holidays are an ideal time for businesses to express genuine appreciation and connect with customers in a more personal way. And what better way to do that than with a year-end video?

Videos are more personal and generally less expensive to produce than traditional paper cards. And, if done right, they can have a positive impact and go a long way towards building good will for your brand. Just keep in mind that you’re not trying to sell anything with your holiday video; it should express sincere gratitude and holiday sentiments, while showcasing your company’s personality.

Did you know premium Pros have access to the Video Builder tool within your WeddingWire account, which means users can create unlimited, professional videos in minutes? Decide the focus of your video (or videos!) this holiday season, and get started today!

Get inspired with these four popular types of holiday videos:

1) Happy Holidays Greeting

The “Happy Holidays” greeting is the most common type of company holiday video card, wishing viewers good wishes from the team. The possibilities are truly endless here, from a simple slideshow of team members or a group photo of the entire company, to a more elaborate reveal of the holiday message.

» WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed: The Results!

WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed: The Results!Late last year, you may recall that we announced our holiday giving program, Love. Write. Feed. For every vendor review written about one of our Pros on WeddingWire, we donated $1 towards a warm meal to feed those in need during holiday season!

The donations went to one of our five food bank partners within the region where the vendor is located. With over 42,000 reviews received during the campaign, we reached our goal! We were able to donate 41,600 meals across our food bank partners! Here’s the breakdown of how the meals were donated:

Of course, we could not have reached our goals without the help of all our Wedding Pros, who helped us by providing their clients with an experience worth reviewing, as well as the wonderful WeddingWire users who wrote the reviews. Thank you all so much for helping us make a difference in the lives of people across the nation!

Many of our Pros even took the initiative to match their own reviews with donations to charities of their choice! Thank you to those generous businesses who contributed through their own efforts.

Thanks again to all our Pros, couples and food bank partners for making the WeddingWire Love. Write. Feed. program a success!
