» The Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends from New York Bridal Fashion Week

The WeddingWire Team just returned from New York Bridal Fashion Week, and what a whirlwind it was! The team attended 86 shows and appointments over six days, and all agree that this was one of the strongest showings we’ve seen in a while! We saw lots of new designers, fresh ideas, and some interesting new wedding dress trends. Check out the styles we’re sure brides will be clamoring for in 2015!

Crop Tops

If this season’s Bridal Fashion Week had a theme, it would be “showing skin.” And designers found lots of ways to do just that. We saw two-piece wedding gowns featuring crop tops on many runways. While these styles aren’t for everyone, they’re certainly modern and fresh.

Deep V-Necks

How low can you go? Well, when it comes to necklines, pretty low, apparently. Designers were bringing necklines nearly down to the navel in many cases. However, if the rest of gown is kept fairly demure with a classic silhouette and perhaps, sleeves, the overall effect isn’t too scandalous.

Yes, it’s that time of year again! It’s New York Bridal Fashion Week (or Bridal Market, as it’s known to insiders) and the WeddingWire team will be there to get a sneak peek of the newest wedding dresses, bridesmaid styles, and accessories. In fact, we will be viewing over 80 collections at fashion shows and private appointments over the next week (that’s a lot of gowns)! These are the wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses that brides will be buying and wearing in 2015, so as a Wedding Pro it’s a good idea to know what’s hot and what’s not!

Want to get the inside scoop on the latest and greatest in wedding fashion? Our editorial team will be posting updates throughout the week on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, WedStyle, and (new this season!) Snapchat, where you can follow ‘weddingwire.’ And to view the full collections, visit our Bridal Market page, which we’ll be updating with the newest photos and trend reports as they come in.

If you’ll be attending Bridal Market, be sure to stop by the WeddingWire booth at Pier 94, complete with snacks, drinks, and a charging station so you can power up your mobile device.

All of the brand-new dresses are also available for your browsing on our Bridal Fashion Week page.

Now, on to some of the top trends we spotted this season that your brides will be asking for:

Layered Over Nude: We saw designers using nude-colored fabric on many gowns to create the illusion of a barely-there look. Lace overlays provide a pretty, feminine look, while beading gives the style more of a jaw-dropping glam factor.

» An Inside Look: We’re Off to Bridal Week!

Kim Forrest is one of WeddingWire’s editors. She manages content creation on both WeddingWire and EventWire. Kim has been writing about weddings for nearly a decade, and has been quoted as a weddings expert in the New York Times, Washington Post, Slate, and more.

Twice a year, members of the WeddingWire team attend New York International Bridal Week, commonly referred to in the industry as Bridal Market! For those unfamiliar, this event is basically Fashion Week for wedding dresses, where all of the top designers share their collections at runway shows, presentations, and informal appointments for both retailers and the wedding press. So basically, we get to see the newest wedding dresses as they hit the runway – months before they’re available in stores. We’re super-excited that New York International Bridal Week is coming up in just a few weeks – April 19-22 – and we’ll be there to cover it all!

Now, there are a lot, and we mean, a lot of shows to attend. While the home base of  the event is located at Pier 92 on the west side of Manhattan, there are shows throughout the day all over the city – uptown, downtown, and everywhere in between. To make it through the day, we rely on comfortable shoes (taxis can be hard to come by and we often find ourselves hoofing it!), our trusty spreadsheet/calendar, our phones (and chargers!), and lots and lots of candy!

But it’s not all sweet treats and gorgeous gowns – we’re at Bridal Week to work. At each show, we have our hands full – taking written notes, Tweeting, pinning, Facebook-ing, Instagramming, and blogging. We want to make sure you have the latest info on the hottest gowns as they step off the runway. We’re also looking for the hottest trends – the styles brides will be clamoring for in the coming months. Last season, it was all about lace, peplums, sleeves, pink, and gold – but we’re certainly curious about what we’ll find this time around. Our hunch is we’ll see a lot of glamorous, Great Gatsby-inspired gowns in anticipation of the upcoming Baz Luhrmann film, but we’ll just have to wait and see!

Mark your calendars! Starting on April 19th, we’ll be sharing the newest wedding dresses through WeddingWire’s social media channels – Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram, plus presenting the hottest trends on the WeddingWire blog. We’ll also have photo slideshows of every runway show on our Fashion Ideas section so you can check out your favorite gowns, and a Inside Look recap specifically for Pros like you on the WeddingWireEDU blog following the event.

If you’ll be at the event checking out the newest designs, we would love to see you! Come visit our WeddingWire Lounge (Booth #299, Pier 94)  to relax while re-charging your phone and tablet. We hope to see you there!

» Fashion and Fun at New York Bridal Market!

This past weekend, New York International Bridal Week was all the buzz as buyers, retailers and manufacturers enjoyed countless fashion shows and exciting exhibits at Pier 94 in Midtown, New York City. WeddingWire was thrilled to be the show’s media sponsor this year, providing select designers with a private runway show, and guests of the event some R & R at a chic lounge full of treats from some of our generous partners.

On Friday, the WeddingWire team hosted 11 designers for a private runway show in Pier 94’s Fashion Theatre. We’re excited to share video footage showcased on WeddingWire, featuring the talented designers including Sarah Janks.

Throughout New York Bridal Market we hosted the WeddingWire Lounge. The lounge became a hot spot for designers, models, guests and other exhibitors who stopped by to power up using one of our Charging Stations, indulge in some treats and hydrate with iced tea. Just Sweets provided the lounge with a mouth-watering candy buffet complete with chocolate-covered pretzels, M&M’s, and lollipops. Honest Tea stocked the Lounge with a selection of teas to help visitors wash the sweets down and refuel. Lounge décor featured glamorous Judith Leiber handbags that stopped passersby in their tracks!

On Sunday, the WeddingWire team invited all of our featured designers for a champagne toast and cupcake reception courtesy of Georgetown Cupcake Soho. Another highlight was on Monday, when Judith Leiber’s Creative Director, Jana Matheson, stopped by the Lounge for two hours of engaging Q&A.

We had a great time at New York International Bridal Week, and are excited to share some of our behind-the-scenes photos below!

» WeddingWire travels to NYC

We traveled to NYC earlier this week to attend two great events:

Martha Stewart Weddings Bridal Market Event

The Martha Stewart Weddings team hosted their annual Bridal Market event this past Monday at the Tavern on the Green.  We were invited to attend and network with guests! The event was beautiful and we had a great time socializing with the Martha Stewart Weddings team and attending guests.

Here are a few pictures:

The Wedding Salon

We attended the Wedding Salon bridal showcase on Wednesday, where the latest wedding trends were displayed. The Wedding Salon bridal showcase brings together the leading vendors and the top spenders in the wedding industry. This year’s show took place at beautiful venue, The Prince George Ballroom, and showcased a variety of great vendors. We even got to meet one of our featured NYC officiants, Rabbi Andrea Frank!

Take a look at some pictures:
