Yesterday, important new changes were made in several states towards marriage equality for LGBT couples. Voters in Maryland and Maine approved same-sex marriage, and Washington state has not yet been confirmed, but is expected to also be approved. Additionally, Minnesota voted against an amendment in the state’s constitution that would have defined marriage as an exclusive partnership between a man and woman.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating this historic day – the first day that the popular vote has spoken its support of marriage equality – with our friends at WeddingWire,” said Kathryn Hamm, President of GayWeddings.com.
“We know that the votes in Maryland, Maine, Washington, and Minnesota represent much more than same-sex couples standing up for themselves by voting. We are all in this together. History has been made thanks to the support – and votes – of our many straight allies, including our families, friends and the many Wedding Pros who have embraced our unions and supported our efforts to secure legal rights for our families. WeddingWire has been a formidable ally in helping us to educate and prepare Wedding Pros, while also extending the number of planning resources and options available for same-sex couples.”
WeddingWire is pleased to celebrate these new LGBT-friendly changes alongside our network partner, GayWeddings.com.
“GayWeddings.com is a strong and valued partner within the WeddingWire network, and we are pleased to join GayWeddings.com in celebrating the important new milestones towards marriage equality, passed this election,” said Timothy Chi, CEO, WeddingWire. “As LGBT couples begin the wedding planning process, we are happy to provide them with the most comprehensive database of LGBT-friendly vendors on our partner site GayWeddings.com.”
