Soon our electronic devices will start to have relationships… with each other! Near Field Communication, or NFC for short, is going to take off in the US. It will allow our devices to easily communicate with each other and share info. Instead of exchanging business cards, you will be able to exchange contact details by simply putting your phone close to another person’s phone. Rather than purchase a physical ticket to get on the subway, you’ll use your phone to pass through the gates.
Most importantly, NFC will make it easy for us to pay in the real world. Instead of carrying credit cards and cash around, all we will need is our phone. Simply touch your phone at your favorite store or in the back of a cab and you’ll be on your way. The next generation of iPhone and Android powered devices will have NFC built into them, which will drive rapid growth.
